In 1998, Jim Whalen purchased Oil Masters Quik Lube from retiring owners Jim Biggins and Joseph Whalen. He quickly established the model for an independently owned and operated oil-change service center that challenges the national chains in terms of price, quality and integrity. The Oil Masters Quik Lube Palmetto location proved so successful that he purchased land in the Parkwood Square shopping plaza where he built his second service center in 2003.
